When Paula Abdul plunged back into the pop music world with her video "Dance Like There's No Tomorrow," she said she felt no American Idol contestant jitters.

"The best thing is that nobody knew that I was doing this, so I didn't have any pressure," Abdul, 45, told PEOPLE Wednesday night at W Magazine's Hollywood Affair Party in West Hollywood.

Abdul started prepping for the release of her new single during the holidays. She continued eating pumpkin pie – but in moderation – while increasing her dance classes and workouts.

The video leaked online earlier this week, the day before it was supposed to premiere on Idol. The song will appear on the upcoming album, "Randy Jackson's Music Club, Vol. 1."

"Randy played the song for me," said Abdul about the collaboration with her fellow Idol judge. "He was like, 'This is so you,' and after four bars I knew."

She is currently in the studio finishing up her first album in more than a decade. Then she plans on hitting the road, possibly touring with an upcoming Idol.

"That's been presented to me, but we have to figure out what works," she said.
