When the Michigan-bred up-and-comer uttered those words on American Bandstand, it sounded like hubris. But during her 25 years in the music biz, Her Madgesty has made good on her threat, selling more than 200 million albums and reinventing pop, fashion and herself along the way. On March 10 she'll be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum by Justin Timberlake. Whether blonde or brunette, controversial or classic, with eyebrows—or without!—the queen of reinvention has never been afraid to express herself.
As mom to son Rocco, 7, and daughter Lourdes, 11, Madonna has shifted priorities, as reflected in her more recent mature, chic look. "[When] you have a family," said the Maternal Girl Feb. 13, "you [think] about things in a way that you haven't before." As for turning 50 this August, she's characteristically cool: "I see it as another excuse to have a birthday party," she said at the Berlin International Film Festival Feb. 13. Can't wait to see what she wears!
