Carrie Underwood's Surprise Opry Invite
Originally posted Tuesday March 18, 2008 08:45 AM EDT
Carrie Underwood got the surprise of a lifetime over the weekend: She was invited to join the Grand Ole Opry.
"It's wonderful to think that I'm going to be a part of it – an official part of it – not just showing up and singing," she said after the sold out show.
The singer, who turned 25 earlier in the week, was surprised by Randy Travis, whose 1988 Billboard No. 1 single "I Told You So" Underwood covered on her most recent album, Carnival Ride. "I was asked by the management here at the Grand Ole Opry to come out here and ask you if you would like to be their next member," Travis said.
"Let me think about it," Underwood replied playfully before accepting and wiping tears from her eyes.
Underwood made her Grand Ole Opry debut on June 10, 2005, just two weeks after winning American Idol. She will be formally inducted on May 10.
