David Beckham: My 'Mum' Wasn't Happy about Underwear Ad

David Beckham made a lot of women happy when he posed in just his underwear for Emporio Armani billboards last December.

His mother, alas, was not one of them.

"When the photos came out, she was the first one to call me and say, 'What are you doing?'" Beckham, 32, revealed to Jay Leno during the soccer star's Tuesday appearance on NBC's Tonight Show. "I had to try and explain it to her and it didn't go down that well."

When Leno flashed one of the steamy pics, however, the studio audience squealed with approval.

Beckham and the TV host (who earlier in the day issued an apology over remarks he had made on a previous show to Ryan Phillippe) also commiserated about life in the same L.A. neighborhood – with Beckham apologizing for the pack of photographers who routinely camp outside the home he shares with wife Victoria.

He did note, however, that celebrity photographers in the U.S. have been more "kind to us" than those back home in the U.K.
