After battling knee and ankle injuries most of last season, David Beckham got off on the right foot Thursday scoring his first Major League Soccer goal and assisting on a second score in the Los Angeles Galaxy's 2-0 victory over the San Jose Quakes at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.
"It's important that we won tonight and play a good performance as a team," said Beckham after the game. "We're very happy."
Beckham was downright effusive at his post-game press conference, discussing everything from how he felt about his goal, to the new camaraderie he feels with his teammates to how his three sons are enjoying their time in Los Angeles.
"It's great to score a goal," he said. "I always enjoy scoring goals; I'm usually at the other end assisting. But tonight Landon [Donovan] assisted me and I assisted him. I’m happy, but more happy with the team performance. We played well tonight."
As for he's adjusting to life in the U.S., he said: "I'm enjoying my time here. It's been a great experience."
That goes for his family, including his three sons with wife Victoria Beckham: "They love living here. The boys are settled and that's the most important thing when moving to a different place – especially for us moving to another part of the world. They go back to see their grandparents and they saw them at spring break and now they're back and they couldn't be happier."
