British rocker Peter Doherty has been sent to jail for breaching a court order, PEOPLE has confirmed.

"Today, Peter Doherty was sentenced to a total of 14 weeks in jail for being in breach of his probation order," record company rep Jon Bills said in a prepared statement Tuesday.

"Unfortunately Peter has had to postpone his show at the Royal Albert Hall on April 26th.The show is due to be rescheduled and all tickets will be valid for the new date once it has been announced. Peter was very much looking forward to the show and would like to offer his sincerest apologies to all his fans and to all those concerned."

If Doherty, 29, is refused early release he will also miss performing at Britain's legendary outdoor festival at Glastonbury in late June.

Doherty is the former boyfriend of model Kate Moss and the frontman of the band Babyshambles. He has struggled to overcome drugs for a number of years and has had numerous brushes with the law in Britain.

In October, the musician avoided jail time and was given a suspended jail sentence for possessing crack cocaine, heroin, ketamine and cannabis, and driving infringements. The sentence included a 12-month treatment program.

Although Judge Davinder Lachar at London's West Ealing Magistrates' Court felt encouraged last year with Doherty's outpatient rehab reports, Doherty was sentenced to jail time today because of repeated violations.

The rocker's appearance has been increasingly erratic of late. The night before the NME Awards – readers of the magazine voted him a "hero" in February – he played at East London's Rhythm Factory with a gushing nosebleed. He claimed this was due to "a scrap with my cat."

Doherty also cancelled a March concert because he was unable to leave his rented house in Wiltshire. And he appeared again with a bloody nose at the Powers Bar in Kilburn in late March.

A friend of the singer tells PEOPLE of his jail sentence: "His luck finally ran out."
