The inquest, which lasted more than six months, concluded Monday, when the 11 jurors found that the couple’s tragic 1997 deaths were caused by the "unlawful, negligent driving of [their chauffeur] and the following vehicles."
At the time, Fayed said he was "disappointed" with the verdict. But the Harrods department store owner now says he “accepts” the decision and will stop promoting his conspiracy theory.
"Enough is enough, for the sake of the two Princes who love their mother," the 79-year-old told Britain's ITV News At Ten on Tuesday. "I've had enough. I'm leaving this to God to get my revenge."
While insisting there were a "lot of things I'm not approving 100-percent," Fayed, who appeared tired and emotional during the interview, said, "I accept the verdict."
The entire investigation and inquiry took four years, with the inquest costing about $20 million, according to Scotland Yard's deputy commissioner Paul Stephenson.
Even though the jury did not find evidence of a royal conspiracy, Fayed said he'd taken some solace from the ruling – which placed the blame squarely on the couple's driver, Henri Paul, and the paparazzi who were following them.
"The most important thing for me is that the jury [decided] that it was not accident," he explained. "This gives me great satisfaction."
