Kate Hudson is a comedy pro, according to one of her upcoming costars. "I had a lot of scenes with her, and she was really funny," Jason Biggs told PEOPLE at Tuesday's Recording Academy Up Close & Personal with Mel Brooks, in Santa Monica. (Biggs plays Hudson's ex-boyfriend in this fall's My Best Friend's Girl, costarring Dane Cook.)
"I think there is a dearth of really funny, pretty leading ladies out
there," Biggs, 29, says, joking, "I think it was pretty clear from the
beginning that I was the funnier of the two. She didn't really try to
[upstage me]. But she's funny ... for a girl."
The American Pie actor attended Tuesday's event with actress Jenny Mollen, his fiancée since announcing their engagement in January. Mollen, 28, and Biggs's wedding will be this July, according to the couple, after they scrapped plans to elope.
"We decided that it was going to be in three months," Biggs says. "I
just told her a minute ago that I wrote a list. We just decided a week
ago that we were even going to have a wedding."
Biggs cracked, "We should let people celebrate us." Mollen and Biggs
met on the set of My Best Friend's Girl last year.
Biggs picked two longtime friends as co-best men, he said, adding the
wedding will be low-key: "I asked a friend of mine to be my best man
last night, but it was so – Jenny's like, 'So, do you want to tell him
that we decided on a date?' I was like, 'What are you guys doing – oh,
do you want to be my best man?' It's all casual and fun. It's going to
be a fun party."
Asked if he's ready to settle down, Biggs says, deadpanning, "I am.
She's not. She's on the fence."
