Brad Paisley, country music's favorite jokester, choked up Thursday night at a "Perfect 10" party in Nashville in honor of his career milestones – 10 million albums sold, 10 No. 1 singles and 10 years with his label.

"This is for everyone who is here ... thank you for giving me my job," the "Ticks" singer, 35, told the crowd of 275, which included co-writers, friends and his dad, Doug. "You don't get to stand up on that stage ... and I wish you could."

With country legend Little Jimmy Dickens (a frequent sidekick in Paisley's videos) at his side, Paisley said of Nashville, "We have the best people working here." Pausing to wipe his eyes, he continued, "Sorry, I have to try to keep it together thinking of them."

Guests nibbled on mini bacon avocado burgers at the aptly named Radius 10 restaurant, while Doug Paisley praised his son: "I can't say enough about how proud I am for the dad he's become and the husband he is."

The singer's 1-year-old son, Huck, and wife, actress Kimberly Williams-Paisley, were in L.A., where she is filming, but the two were on Paisley's mind. "Huck's doing great,” he told PEOPLE. “He's starting to say little words and make animal sounds and if you ask him, ‘What does a fish do? He’ll do this," said Paisley' puckering up his face.

Next week, Paisley says, "I'm on my own with [Huck] all week – it's the first time! Kim's going to go out of her mind!”

Asked if she'll leave a list of instructions? "She’d better," says Paisley, "otherwise, he'll be eating chocolate all week."
