The CW, April 21, 8 p.m. ET
Before the strike cut into Gossip Girl's
irresistible OMG! narrative of broken hearts, stabbed backs and fashion faux pas among Manhattan's teen elite, Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester) saw her standing ruined through a text-messaged rumor about bed-hopping naughtiness. She thought of running off to Paris but decided to stay, prompting the show's snarky narrator to muse, "One good scandal deserves another. Wonder who's going down next? Everybody, if B has anything to say about it." Go, Blair! Her rival/friend Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively) is sweet and sadly troubled—she's the show's center—but Blair is just as emotionally damaged, and she's a hypocrite. That makes her marginally more interesting. The new episodes promise a fresh thorn in poor Serena's oft-punctured side: a girl from her past named Georgina Sparks (Michelle Trachtenberg). But it's the wrath of Blair I want to see. Meester has the willful pout of Salome demanding the head of John the Baptist. Only she favors knee socks over veils.
