Beyoncé & Jay-Z
READY TO MARRY!
Happening as it did—on April Fool's Day— and after a weekend's worth of other false weddings (Angelina and Brad did not marry in New Orleans!), it seemed like one Ashton Kutcher punk too many. But this once the rumors were true: On April 1, according to a source, Jay-Z and Beyoncé walked into a municipal office in Scarsdale, N.Y., and took out a marriage license. A rep for Beyoncé told PEOPLE, "No comment." A spokesperson for Jay-Z, on tour with Mary J. Blige until May 8 (see page 69), was not available for comment. But the document means the super couple can marry anywhere in New York State during the next 60 days. A couple since 2002, Beyoncé, 26, and Jay-Z, 38, have been tight-lipped about their relationship, though the Houston-born singer has discussed her ideal wedding. "I was never one of those girls who dreamed of a big wedding," she told InStyle in 2007. "Maybe me and my man will go away to an island; maybe we'll go to church. I have no idea." Though we may soon find out.
Gwyneth's Mom on Chris
'SHE HAS A GREAT HUSBAND'
Gwyneth Paltrow, 35, and her husband of four years, Chris Martin, 31, are rarely spotted together, which is fueling tabloid reports that their marriage is on shaky ground. In fact, Paltrow attended both a Prince's Trust event in London March 18 and Madonna's UNICEF/Raising Malawi fund-raiser in N.Y.C. Feb. 6 without Martin. And on Feb. 28 he was spotted without a wedding ring (though he was bicycling). But a source says, "They're not splitting. Things are going well. They're just private." And Gwyneth's mom, Blythe Danner, 65, told Scoop at the Planned Parenthood gala in Arlington, Va., March 27: "She has a great husband, and they have a wonderful life."
THE HILLS: THE MOVIE?
Lauren Conrad, 22, nixed talk of a flick, telling ET Canada how the rumor began: "I did an interview, and they asked if we were making a Hills movie. I said we've talked about it, but I meant me and my girlfriends.... [A movie] would be too difficult. You can't write it, and every movie's planned so it would be weird."
MTV U.K. held open auditions on April 1 in London for 18- to 21-year-olds who "have striking looks/personal style" for a "reality TV show—think The Hills—set in London."
THE BRODY SHOW?
The Hills' resident hottie Brody Jenner, 24, was overheard telling club-goers at L.A.'s Goa on March 27 that he and BFF Frankie Delgado were celebrating their new reality show, a testosterone-charged spinoff of The Hills. His rep tells Scoop, "Brody is in talks with MTV, but the details of the project have not been confirmed."
SET TO MARRY A MODEL
Tennis superstar Andy Roddick, 25, proposed to model Brooklyn Decker, 20, on March 25. "We feel lucky to have found one another," Roddick, who previously dated Mandy Moore, tells Scoop. Days after Roddick proposed, on March 31 he joked about Decker's engagement ring at the 2008 Sony Ericsson Open in Key Biscayne, Fla. "I got it in a gumball machine," he said. "You know those machines with the big claws? A claw grabbed it!" But a source says Roddick, who met Decker last fall after asking his rep to track down her number, bought the ring from tony Fifth Avenue jeweler Tiffany & Co.
THIS WEEK'S AMERICAN IDOL BUZZ
IS DAVID COOK A COPYCAT?
Idol breakout David Cook, 25, under fire from musicians who claimed he's been performing their renditions of classic songs without crediting them, acknowledged the truth during the April 1 telecast and gave credit where it was due. The trouble started on March 4 when Cook performed Lionel Richie's "Hello," which, according to some music chat rooms, sounded like Incubus's take on the song. Then on March 11, Cook performed the Beatles' "Eleanor Rigby," which prompted Luke McPherson, lead singer of Doxology, to declare, "David and American Idol need to acknowledge that arrangement was indeed Doxology's." A March 25 performance of "Billie Jean" echoed Chris Cornell's rendition of the Michael Jackson song. At the time, judges gushed about Cook's originality, which is why Cornell says, "I'm not really mad at [Cook]; I view him as being a fan ... [but] I would expect that the judges would be a little less ignorant about where these songs come from."
Dancing with the Stars
KARINA & THE OTHER MARIO
It's not uncommon for Dancing duos to take a break from toe-tapping and socialize off the set. But during the early hours of March 23, at NBA star Baron Davis' birthday party at Stone Rose Lounge in L.A.'s Sofitel hotel, R&B singer Mario and his Dancing partner Karina Smirnoff—who's been dating her season 3 partner Mario Lopez since 2006—took things one step further. A source tells Scoop that as they left the bar, they "gave each other little pecks in front of his friends. Then he pulled her into an alcove and they started making out!" Mario says, "It's not true at all!" Yes, he and Smirnoff were at Stone Rose, but "our relationship is totally professional." Smirnoff also denies the incident, but rumors that the pair's tango goes beyond the dance floor have been churning for weeks. So how does Lopez (who's on Broadway rehearsing for A Chorus Line) react when asked about his girlfriend's alleged behavior? He laughs. "Everything's all right," he says. "She's cool. I'm cool. We're all good."
THE ZAC ATTACK!
Hollywood's mane man? Zac Efron. The High School Musical star's artfully tousled 'do appears to have inspired Gossip Girl's Chace Crawford, Fall Out Boy rocker Pete Wentz and Dancing with the Stars' Derek Hough.
"The sun's out again. I'm just having fun. I'm taking a break and having a good time"
—EVA MENDES, WHO recently stayed at Cirque Lodge for "personal issues," on life post-rehab, at an L.A. luncheon cohosted by Fresh Cosmetics & Rose.
The High School Musical star dishes about the franchise's final chapter, Nick and Jessica—and those plastic surgery rumors!
You're about to start shooting High School Musical 3: Senior Year. Are you psyched?
We have so much fun together, and it's been in our lives for years, so the fact that this is the ending of the chapter is sad to me.
You recently finished shooting the 2009 film They Came from Upstairs in New Zealand, in which your character dukes it out with aliens. Talk about a change from HSM.
It was so much fun! I had an action scene where I had a fight, a battle, girl vs. alien. It was my first action scene in a movie.
Are you planning to record another solo album?
Yeah. I've been taking my time with this one. I've done two songs. I really want to cowrite, so I'll be cowriting with some writers when I'm in Utah [filming HSM 3]. It probably won't come out until the fall.
As a spokesperson for Degree Girl antiperspirant, you have a video blog (DegreeGirl.com), where you share your "OMG! moments." What's one of your "OMG! moments"?
I got to meet Jessica [Simpson] when she was on the set of Blonde Ambition. I fell in love with Jessica and Nick from Newlyweds, and I just always wanted to meet her.
You've denied reports that you had a second nose job. What about reports of breast augmentation?
Oh yeah. I read that I had a boob job. Look at me. Does it look like it? Absolutely not. That is so not me!
