Love Me Do

Earlier this year, after learning that her middle daughter, Mary, was engaged to marry TV producer Alistair Donald, Linda McCartney reportedly shrieked to friends, "My baby's getting married!" But the breast cancer that claimed her life last April delayed the wedding originally set for the summer.

After months of mourning and re-planning, the McCartneys—led by patriarch Paul, 56—finally celebrated Mary's wedding on Sept. 26 in Peasmarsh, East Sussex, 50 miles south of London. The former Beatle, in a gray pin-striped suit, took the wheel of a blue Rolls-Royce to chauffeur the bride to the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul. Wearing a peach-rose gown, Mary, 29, a photographer, walked arm-in-arm with McCartney into the 12th-century church where he gave her away.

At the altar, they joined Donald and Mary's sisters Heather, 35, and Stella, 27—a fashion designer—who served as bridesmaids in mint-green dresses. Their brother James, 21, a musician, decked down in a brown suit with flip-flop sandals, also attended. As some 30 locals cheered them following the 40-minute ceremony, the 80 or so guests rode in coaches to the family farm a half-mile away for a vegetarian reception. Said one onlooker: "It was great to see the family looking so happy after what has obviously been a sad time."
