One week after his surgery to treat a malignant brain tumor, Sen. Edward M. Kennedy is expected to be released from North Carolina's Duke University Medical Center on Monday, his son, Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-R.I.), tells the Providence Journal-Bulletin.
The 76-year-old is then due to rest at the Kennedy family compound in Hyannis Port, on Cape Cod.
"I know he's planning for the future," the younger Kennedy said of his father, "and being chairman of the committee that will consider the health-care legislation when [Barack] Obama is president."
The operation, his son added, "went better than anyone expected."
