He's been back on the air less than a year – but radio host Don Imus is already in hot water following comments he made Monday about footballer Adam Jones.

Discussing the suspended Dallas Cowboys cornerback's six arrests, Imus asked, "What color is he?" Told that the player (formerly nicknamed "Pacman") is African American, Imus responded: "There you go. Now we know."

Rev. Al Sharpton said he found the comment "disturbing because it plays into stereotypes."

But the radio host – who was fired by CBS Radio in April 2007 following his racially insensitive remarks about a women's basketball team – claims it's all a misunderstanding.

"I meant that he was being picked on because he's black," Imus said in a statement released by his spokesman, the Associated Press reports.
