In an effort to "jump-start an inner makeover," the talk-show queen, 54, undertook a 21-day cleanse three weeks ago, inspired by Kathy Freston's book Quantum Wellness – which prohibits caffeine, sugar, alcohol, gluten or animal products.
After finishing the cleanse on June 22, Winfrey blogged about almost caving in to her last-minute cravings, saying, "I want some wine. Bordeaux 82. Just one glass at sunset, almost broke down and had a glass. I didn't."
Her main meal on the final day of the cleanse? A large baked potato and fresh green salad. "All ingredients except the olive oil came from my garden," noted Winfrey. "I got a real kick out of that. I was raised by a grandmother who grew and harvested everything."
In the end, the TV titan accomplished what she set out to do. "This has been exactly what we intended: enlightening," wrote Winfrey. "I will forever be a more cautious and conscious eater. That's my commitment for now. To stay awakened."
