He and girlfriend Dolores Fonzi, an actress from Argentina, confirmed the pregnancy Wednesday in a statement to the Associated press.
"This statement is to say that, after so much speculation and comments, the actors ... are indeed expecting a baby at the start of next year," Garcia Bernal's production company, Canana Films, said in a statement.
Bernal, 29, previously dated Natalie Portman. He and Fonzi costarred in 2001's Private Lives.
