It's been 20 years since Barney and Friends premiered on PBS – and to celebrate PEOPLE.com looks back at where the BFFs (and Disney stars) got their start.
The real-life friends, both 10 at the time, met while singing and dancing on the already popular PBS show. Check out the clips from 2002 after the jump.
Gomez, who now stars in The Wizards of Waverly Place, played Gianna for two seasons, and Lovato, who starred with the Jonas Brothers in Camp Rock, played Angela on the series. They may have since moved on, but check out these adorable vintage clips of the stars, singing and dancing their hearts out with Barney.
In the first clip, Lovato plays a musically-inclined crossing guard. In the second video, Gomez duets with Barney about where she finds inspiration.
