Tennis star Evert, who stepped out solo Monday at the U.S. Open's 8th Annual USTA Serves' OPENing Gala in Queens, N.Y., told PEOPLE she's very happy to be a newlywed. "It's only [eight] weeks, I'd better be happy!" she said. "Or else, I'm in big trouble! I've met my match, I think."
Their time together "has been wonderful," said Evert, who adds that golf legend Norman isn't too shabby at her sport either. "Yeah, he's a good tennis player."
Evert, 53, chatted at the gala with fellow tennis legends Monica Seles, Boris Becker, Andy Roddick, Martina Navratilova and Ivan Lendl.
The big topic of conversation? Their children. "We all have kids now," says Evert, who has three sons with ex-husband Andy Mill: Alex, 16, Nicky, 14, and Coulton, 12. "We were just talking about is it better for kids to be good at everything, all sports, or be great at one thing."
This is the second marriage for Norman and the third for Evert.
