"He's got a good eye," the actress-screenwriter, 38, told PEOPLE at Friday's Academy of Television & Sciences party for the acting nominees – of which the hunky Hamm is one. "You'd be surprised.
"Plus," she said, "I wanted to wear something he loves, so I feel so happy with it now. There were so many I could have worn and been delighted to wear, but every dress has a different vibe."
Modest about the role he played in helping Westfeldt select her outfit, Hamm, 37, told PEOPLE that he simply "gave my opinion. You know, I’m not qualified to make the decision on those levels."
As for what he might wear Sunday – such as a lucky charm – Hamm said, "I don't have any, but I might wear something that means something to me, or bring something … I'm not sure yet. We'll see."
Westfeldt assumed the same "we'll see" attitude when asked how it feels being attached to one of TV's hottest guys.
"I'll get back to you on that," she promised, "but, you know, he's always been a sex symbol to me, so I don't know [why] everyone is just catching up now."
