Ellen DeGeneres Tells Sarah Palin Don't Ban Gay Marriage

Wednesday October 22, 2008 04:00 PM EDT

Ellen DeGeneres had a message for Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin on her talk show Wednesday: "We should all be equal."

The TV host took aim at the Alaska governor for favoring a federal ban on gay marriages.

"Basically, she wants to change the Constitution," DeGeneres, 50, said of Palin, 44. "I don't like it. I don't agree! And maybe it's because I'm gay that I think we should all be equal."

An advocate for gay unions, DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, 35, were married at their Los Angeles home Aug. 16. And DeGeneres recently came out against California's Proposition 8 (which seeks to prohibit same-sex marriages).

With her signature humor, DeGeneres admitted to a personal interest in Election-Day results. "I can't return the wedding gifts," she quipped. "I love my new toaster."
