Attack Helicopters in Prince Harry 's Future? | Prince Harry
Prince William has already learned to fly helicopters. Now Prince Harry hopes to follow in the footsteps of older brother.

He is set to undergo intensive assessment in November to see if he has what it takes to join the Army Air Corps training program. He has already passed some initial tests, his office says.

But unlike William – who already has some flight experience and plans to become a search and rescue pilot – Harry hopes to fly attack helicopters, like the Apache.

The training program – which includes mastering the Gazelle, Lynx and the heavily-armed Apache aircraft – lasts more than two years.

The prince, who served a tour of duty in Afghanistan earlier this year, has made no secret of his desire to follow up with additional deployments in trouble spots around the world.

The 24-year-old currently serves as a tank commander for the Household Cavalry army regiment.

"He has enjoyed flying and shown an aptitude for it," his spokesman says, noting that it's common for young army officers to try something new at this stage in their careers.

Harry and William, 26, have just returned to the U.K. after their motorcycle race across South Africa.
