Snow Patrol turned up the heat with their last CD, Eyes Open, which was the top-selling album of 2006 in their native U.K. and spawned the U.S. hit "Chasing Cars." While there's nothing on Suns that will patrol your consciousness like "Cars," their less immediate, more challenging fifth studio disc rewards upon further listening. The moody atmospherics of songs like "The Planets Bend Between Us (For You)," a ballad that seems to float through the cosmos, take a page out of the Radiohead playbook. Most ambitious and impressive is the closer "The Lightning Strike," a 16-minute, three-part epic whose scope may exceed the limits of consumption on Grey's Anatomy.
