"I must say she doesn't need advice," Bruni-Sarkozy, who married Nicolas Sarkozy in February, told Matt Lauer on Wednesday's Today show. "It would be better for me to get advice from her!"
The 39-year-old ex-model and singer, who is promoting her third album, Comme Si de Rien N'etait ("As If Nothing Had Happened"), said she admired the way Michelle "was supporting her husband during the campaign" and described the 2008 presidential election as "fantastic. The whole world was thrilled about it."
"France was extremely enthusiastic about it," says Bruni-Sarkozy. "I'm looking forward to meeting Michelle Obama. She looks like she's a great, strong, intelligent woman."
