Joel Madden Confident Pete and Ashlee Will Be Great Parents

Proud papa Joel Madden is thrilled to hear that pals Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Pete Wentz have welcomed a new son, Bronx Mowgli. He's sure they can handle it.

"They are going to be great parents," Madden told PEOPLE Saturday while celebrating Good Charlotte's upcoming remix album at Hollywood's ECCO Ultra Lounge. "They both have really big hearts. I wish them the best. I know they have their hands full right now but I'm excited for them."

And Madden can recognize good parenting. He and Nicole Richie have adopted a very hands-on approach when dealing with daughter Harlow. Richie even makes homemade baby food for their 10-month-old daughter.

"Her first food was sweet potatoes and she loved it," Richie recently told PEOPLE. "She ate the whole thing and it was all over the place – in her hair, on her nose, everywhere!"

The key to being loving parents, Madden says, is the backing of a supportive partner. "She's supportive," Madden said of Richie, who watched him give interviews from the event's VIP lounge.
