Having earned critical raves for her raw portrayal of recovering drug addict Kym in Rachel Getting Married, Anne Hathaway has now picked up another plaudit: a Spirit Award nomination.

Hathaway, 26, is in the running for best female lead and will face off against Michelle Williams (Wendy and Lucy) when Film International's Spirit Awards are handed out Feb. 21.

In all, Rachel Getting Married, directed by Jonathan Demme, is up for six awards, as is Ballast, a drama about survival in the Mississippi Delta. Leading the field, both films were recognized in the best feature category and for their actors and directors.

Other high-profile nominees include: Penélope Cruz, for best supporting female in Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona; Javier Bardem, for best male lead in that same film; and Sean Penn, as '70s gay activist Harvey Milk, in director Gus Van Sant's Milk. Penn's costar, James Franco, earned a best supporting male nod.
