Lily Allen: Why I Covered Britney's 'Womanizer'
That's the simple explanation Allen gives on her MySpace blog for why she recently covered Spears's hit song "Womanizer."
"[It's] simple, really. I love Britney and I love the song," Allen writes.
The British singer, whose sophomore album It's Not Me, It's You is due out in February, adds, "Mark Ronson asked me for something no one had heard to play on his radio show and 'Womanizer' was the only song I had as an attachment on my BlackBerry and I couldn't get home to send him anything else in time."
Allen, 23, says she didn't intend for the cover song, a stripped-down, piano-backed version of Spears's synth-heavy original, "to have whizzed 'round the world like it has" after Ronson featured it on his East Village Radio show "Authentic S--" on Dec. 12.
She also quips, "I had asked [Mark] to talk all over it so it wouldn't get ripped, but he didn't, thanks Mark for getting me in serious trouble with my record company."
