In 1980, Barack Obama was a freshman at Occidental College in Los Angeles when he was approached by an aspiring photographer to pose for a series of black-and-white pictures for her portfolio.

In revealing photos by Lisa Jack, the future president – and Time's Person of the Year – can be seen in his youthful days in unguarded moments with hat and cigarette.
