President-elect Barack Obama says the family has officially narrowed the field in the race to become First Pet.

As promised to daughters Malia, 10 – who has pet allergies – and Sasha, 7, they are searching shelters for two medium-sized, hypoallergenic breeds: Portuguese water hound and Labradoodle.

Though great with children, the Portuguese water dogs don't like to be left alone for long periods of time, which could pose a challenge to a family that will be traveling around the world.

Labradoodles, on the other hand, make ideal family dogs with sweet dispositions and are happy to live a low-key lifestyle,

Which breed do you think is best for the First Family?
