Picks and Pans Review: Decorating for Less

Interior design guru Thom Filicia, host of the Style Network's Dress My Nest (and Queer Eye for the Straight Guy alum) is out with his first how-to guide. Some pocketbook-friendly tips:

1 PAINT: YOUR BUDGET'S BEST FRIEND Just doing one wall in a great color is a fabulous way to change your room. Or paint a runner on the staircase.

2 THRIFT SHOPS ROCK Secondhand stores are a great place to pick up a $15 dining table. Fixing up finds doesn't take a lot of labor or know-how. A piece can go from drab to fab in two seconds.

3 LIGHT UP YOUR LIFE Bad lighting is an epidemic. Don't rely on one light for the whole room. Have a reading lamp, something dimmable. Add votives to make it feel like something special's about to happen.
