Barack Obama Pens a Letter to His Daughters
In a letter addressed to Malia and Sasha, President-elect Barack Obama tells his daughters that they helped inspire him to run for the Presidency.

Appearing in Parade Magazine on Jan. 18, Obama's letter admits that the long campaign "hasn't always been easy" on Malia, 10, Sasha, 7, or their mom, Michelle. And that a new puppy won't make up for the time he's spent away from them. But the reason he ran for the White House, he writes, is "because of what I want for you and for every child in this nation."

Obama also shares his hope that as they grow up, Sasha and Malia will do their part to help make America a better place: "I hope both of you will take up that work," he writes.

In conclusion, he tells the girls, "I love you more than you can ever know. And I am grateful every day for your patience, poise, grace and humor as we prepare to start our new life together in the White House. Love, Dad."
