Matt Dillon pleaded not guilty Wednesday to speeding in Vermont.
The actor, 44, was stopped by police on Dec. 30 for allegedly driving 106 m.p.h. on an interstate highway in a rented Chevy Impala. He was charged with careless and negligent operation for driving more than 30 m.p.h. above the 65-m.p.h. speed limit, the Associated Press reports.
Dillon's lawyer, Mark Kaplan, entered the plea for the actor, who did not appear in court.
If convicted, the Crash Oscar nominee faces up to a year in jail and could be fined $1,000.
