Massachusetts Sen. Edward Kennedy was released from the hospital a day after suffering a seizure during Congressional inaugural luncheon.

Kennedy's office confirmed to the Associated Press Wednesday that the 76-year-old left the hospital, where had been resting overnight for observation. A spokesman added that he was in good spirits.

Doctors blamed fatigue for Tuesday's seizure, which struck Kennedy, who was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor last May, at Barack Obama's post-swearing-in ceremony gathering in National Statuary Hall.

According to the Wall Street Journal, former Vice President Walter Mondale, who was sitting with Kennedy at the event, says, "Ted was telling old war stories. He was obviously under stress. Everybody was sobered."

Obama rushed to the senator's side when he fell ill, and stood with him until he was taken out, the paper also reports.
