Black Eyed Peas' apl.de.ap
The half-brother of musician apl.de.ap, one of the creative forces behind the hip-hop group Black Eyed Peas, was murdered in the Philippines on Tuesday. Joven Pineda Deala was 21.
According to the local newspaper, the Philippines Daily Inquirer, Deala was parked in front of his girlfriend's house outside of the Angeles City in the Pampanga province of the Philippines early Tuesday morning when he was shot in close range in the temple. He was declared dead by medical officials a little more than an hour later.
A spokesperson for apl.de.ap confirmed the murder to PEOPLE but had no further comment.
Police are seeking two unidentified attackers. According to media reports, inspectors are citing a love triangle as the possible motive. Apl.de.ap, whose given name is Allan Pineda Lindo, shared a mother with Deala, and the two were reportedly close. Deala was the youngest of seven siblings.
Apl.de.ap, 34, is flying to the Philippines to be with family, according to the Inquirer. The singer's step-father told the newspaper that the Black Eyed Peas star is "filled with sadness."
This isn't the first tragedy to befall apl.de.ap's family: Several years ago, his brother Arnel committed suicide, and he paid tribute to him in the song The Apl Song.
