The bar should be pretty damn high for even nominating remakes, so let's discount "Please Read the Letter." As big of a hit as it was, "Bleeding Love" just doesn't feel like Record of the Year material. Better is "Chasing Pavements," a richly layered piece of grand-scale pop. For sheer sonic invention, though, you can't beat "Paper Planes." How many songs do you know that can make a hook out of gunshots and a cash register "ca-ching"? But Coldplay reached new anthemic heights, lifting you to the heavens with the glorious "Viva La Vida."
