>• In the new FOX drama Lie to Me, the Practice actress, 38, plays a psychiatrist specializing in fib detection. In real life? She'd rather be in the dark.

WERE YOU EXCITED TO COME BACK TO TV? It was nice to be away for a while, but I was ready. I made a deal with myself that when my youngest went to kindergarten I would go back to work full-time, and it worked. Knock on wood, it keeps going.

THE SHOW FOCUSES ON THE SCIENCE OF LYING. HOW'S YOUR POKER FACE? Not very good. I can do the type of lying that you do at a party where you're just being polite.

ARE YOU GETTING BETTER AT CATCHING OTHERS IN LIES? My three kids [10, 8 and 5] are terrible liars. They're still too young to do it very well. I told them I play someone who can tell if you lie. Now they try to see if they can get away with things like, "No, I didn't eat that cupcake after school. Mommy, do you think I'm telling the truth?"
