CRITIC'S CHOICE

ALT-ROCK
After suffering the dreaded sophomore slump with 2006's moody, murky Show Your Bones, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs shake their bones fiercely on their third album. They launch the dance-floor attack of It's Blitz! with "Zero," the first single and opening track, which sets the pulsating, synth-fueled groove of the disc. Indeed, the indie-rock trio sounds more new wave than punk—shades of Blondie, with Karen O as their Debbie Harry—on songs like the propulsive "Heads Will Roll." But they still maintain their New York City cool; it's just that now instead of CBGB, they're ready to hit Studio 54.
