Jennifer Love Hewitt isn't whispering about her affection for costar Jamie Kennedy – the Ghost Whisperer is loud and clear on Ellen Wednesday.

"We've been friends for a long time," Hewitt, 30, tells Ellen DeGeneres about her budding romance with Kennedy. "I've heard about it – about being friends with somebody and it turns into something else and I've never really done that before and it's been great. He's hilarious and when you're with somebody funny, they're always funny and it's just great."

Hewitt also talked about her "really painful" breakup last year with fiancé Ross McCall, 33, saying, "Look, break-ups are awful ... They really suck on lots of levels, but what I think is great about life is that the universe always brings you something really beautiful and great afterward and that's kind of where I am now."

And what is that something beautiful? "A new sense of self but there is also a guy … Jamie Kennedy," Hewitt admits.

For the actress, Kennedy, 38, isn't just the funny guy. "There are people in your life who are just supportive and who just look at you and they see who you are," says Hewitt. "And [Kennedy] really saw who I was as a person more than anybody had ever done in my whole life. I think that's for me when I sort of went, 'Oh, wow.' "
