Conservative commentator Beck, whose pale round face sometimes suggests the Man in the Moon in a state of shock, has become a sensation thanks to his voluble alarm at the scope of President Obama's political program. His ideas aren't surprising: The 912 Project, for example, is intended to rally us back to post-9/11 levels of patriotism. What's original is the weird, silly froth of his performance. He pouts, talks in a sarcastic, widdle-biddie voice, quivers like Jell-O smacked with a spoon, waggles his hands as if trying to shake crumbs from his fingers and sputters with an indignation tinged with self-amused irony. I rather enjoy the way he says, "Blood will shoot out of your eyes!" He's like Paul Giamatti in red, white and blue bunting.
