A word of support for Kiefer Sutherland in tough times.

Joel Schumacher, who will direct the star in his upcoming film Twelve, is defending Sutherland's integrity following claims the actor headbutted fashion designer Jack McCollough at a New York City party earlier this week.

"We love Kiefer," Schumacher tells PEOPLE. "He's still the voice of Nick McDonell, the author in Twelve, which will be my fifth movie with Kiefer. And I hope there will be many more."

The movie, which will also star Chace Crawford, Emma Roberts, Rory Culkin, 50 Cent and Ellen Barkin, is slated to begin filming soon. It is based on a 2002 novel depicting drug use among young people on Manhattan's Upper East Side.
