There's plenty of chatter that the song is about Joe Jonas's ex, Taylor Swift – and possibly a rebuttal to her song, "Forever & Always," from her November 2008 album Fearless, said to be about Joe.
"Forever & Always" sample lyrics: "Was I out of line? / Did I say something way too honest? / That made you run and hide like a scared little boy?"
"Paranoid" sample lyrics: "Caught in a nightmare / Can't wake up/ That's why my ex is still my ex / I never trust a word she says / I'm running all the background checks / And she's freaking out."
Whether people read between the lines or not, they're catchy tunes.
