The counts against the 23-year-old include first-degree murder, armed robbery, two counts of armed kidnapping, armed assault with intent to rob, and two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, CNN reports.
The charges relate to Markoff's alleged April 14 fatal shooting and attempted robbery of Julissa Brisman, 25, and the armed robbery of a Las Vegas woman, Trisha Leffler, 29, four days earlier – crimes that law authorities have both linked to personal services ads on the Craigslist Web site.
Boston District Attorney Daniel F. Conley called Markoff's methods quick, brutal – and similar in both cases.
"He had a very brief encounter with Julissa Brisman," said Conley, the Boston Globe reports. "He bound her hands, he used the same ties that he used on Trisha Leffler, and they had a very, very violent struggle. And, in the course of that struggle, he hit Miss Brisman in the head with his gun. He then pressed the gun into her chest and he fired the gun. She suffered three gunshot wounds and he fled the grounds."
Arrested on April 20 after a police manhunt along the Eastern seaboard, Markoff is being held in Boston's Nashua Street Jail. Not-guilty pleas have been entered on his behalf.
Conley also said that Markoff's former fiancée, Megan McAllister, cooperated with the investigation, though he declined to discuss her testimony.
