VIDEO: Ethan Zohn's Chemo Is Working

07/16/2009 at 10:40 AM EDT

Last week, Survivor: Africa winner Ethan Zohn took viewers inside the hospital as he prepared for a full-body PET Scan – the first big test to determine whether his chemo treatment is working as he continues his battle against a rare form of Hodgkin’s disease. Now the results are in – and they're good!

"I just got a call from the doctor," Zohn, 35, tells viewers in his latest weekly video diary for People.com, "and she said the scan looks fine, and there's no new cause for concern."

As his girlfriend, Jenna Morasca, 28, smiles and gives a big thumbs up to the news, Zohn prepares to call his mother, Rochelle, who's been waiting on pins and needles for the results back at her home in Massachusetts.

Zohn, who began an intense three-month chemotherapy regimen in June, is battling a rare but highly-treatable form of cancer called CD20-positive Hodgkin's Lymphoma. With only one chemo session left to go, he tells PEOPLE , "I see the light at the end of the tunnel." And while he expects to undergo radiation after the chemo is finished, the PET Scan results are the first sign that he’s on his way to beating the disease.
