ON SURVIVING BREAST CANCER I was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma at 22. Only my mother knew. I didn't know how to tell people. I just wanted to sing. On tour, I wore big clothes to hide the chemo pack on my hip. The lumpectomies took inches off my breasts. People asked, "Did you get a breast reduction?" No! That hurt. I fell into a depressed mode. I regret not talking about it. But I've been cancer-free for 20 years.
ON CULT JAM I still do shows with Spanador and Mike [Hughes], who's also a professional capoeira fighter. You see fans from back in the day with their kids—and their kids' kids!
ON HER '80s STYLE I'm horrified by the long-tailed jackets, lace headbands and half gloves. My husband's family makes me and my [two] kids watch my old videos on YouTube. It tortures me. What was I thinking?
