Put the wedding bells on hold, because Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Karina Smirnoff just don't have time to get married right now.

The Dancing with the Stars pro couple, who became engaged in December 2008, are planning to wait until next summer so that they can first meet work commitments – including their gust-star roles in the new Broadway dance show Burn the Floor, which previews this weekend and will tie them up until Aug. 16.

"We don't plan [the wedding]," Chmerkovskiy, 29, told PEOPLE on Friday at a sneak peek of Burn the Floor. "We're [working] 14 hours a day. This is our life right now."

Following this New York stint, the pair will immediately begin work on the new season of ABC's Dancing with the Stars, again leaving no time for wedding plans.

"The only thing we've decided is next year in June," Smirnoff, 31, says. "We were going to pick the place, but we never actually had the time. [But being on Broadway] is amazing and we love doing it, so we don't feel like we're missing out on the wedding dress fittings."

The two have hired a wedding planner to get some of the work done for them, but Smirnoff says they're content just being together until they can make it official.

"We're not rushing," she says. "As long as we're together, tying the knot is a plus, it's something extra."
