Two suburban Ohio police chiefs suspected of masterminding a break-in at the home of a surrogate mother for Sarah Jessica Parker
and Matthew Broderick have been arrested on undisclosed charges.
Martins Ferry Police Chief Barry Carpenter and Bridgeport Police Chief Chad Dojack were booked and released Wednesday night, the Associated Press reports. A special prosecutor has been investigating whether they illegally entered the woman's unoccupied home in May, but authorities declined to say Thursday about what the men are charged with.
News outlets in the area, which is southwest of Pittsburgh, reported last month
that the two chiefs allegedly masterminded a burglary to gather information to sell to the tabloids. Court officials indicated that no information is available if the case was reviewed by a grand jury – where proceedings are confidential – but that charges should become public Friday when the men are arraigned.
Parker has said that she was concerned
about the surrogate mother, who gave birth
to the couple's twin girls June 22 at an Ohio hospital, and that Broderick was furious about the situation.
