Hilary Swank stars as one of aviation's most beloved and inspiring figures, Amelia Earhart, in Amelia – and People.com has a first look at the highly-anticipated film's official poster.

Swank is dramatically posed in front of a plane with only the wings and propellers visible beyond her profile. The film follows Earhart's journey from unknown amateur aviator to America's sweetheart and finally to her world-renowned mission around the world and disappearance in 1937.

Also starring in film: Richard Gere, who plays Earhart's husband, George P. Putnam, and Ewan McGregor, who is Earhart's friend and lover, Gene Vidal.

Amelia, directed by Mira Nair, hits theaters Oct. 23.
