Brad Paisley Performs for the Obamas

08/14/2009 at 09:40 PM EDT

Brad Paisley helped Washington go country for one night by treating the First Family, members of Congress and the White House staff to a night of tunes – and a few laughs.

Paisley, 36, joined fellow country stars Alison Krauss and Charley Pride, on July 21 for a performance – which was part of the new White House Music Series – that will air on the Great American Country channel Aug. 15 at 9 p.m. PEOPLE got a sneak peek at the show, which was the second event in the series created by First Lady Michelle Obama to encourage arts and arts education.

Before singing his song "Welcome to the Future," Paisley reflected on Election Day, telling the audience in the East Room that it felt "unbelievable" to be in N.Y.C.'s Times Square, before turning to the President and quipping, "I'm sure you were busy."

"I stood there and watched the world turn on a dime," Paisley said to President Obama. "I'm a two-time father…I thought about [my children]...you are the first president they will remember, which is something."
