Jessica Simpson Post-Split
'SHE'S SAD & MAD'
It's been nearly two weeks since Jessica Simpson was dumped by Tony Romo on the eve of her 29th birthday, but the singer remains distraught as ever. "She's sad, mad and confused," a family friend tells Scoop. "She didn't think it would end like this." While she had hoped for an engagement ring from Romo—who ended the relationship, in part, to focus on his game—"he just wasn't on the same page," says a friend of the Dallas Cowboys star.
As Romo, 29, enjoys his single status, hanging out with pals in L.A. and Lake Tahoe, Simpson has chosen to "hide out at home" and seek comfort from her parents and sister Ashlee, says another family source. "She's depressed. They encourage her to go out and have a good time." Simpson finally took their advice on July 18, when she enjoyed a night out with friends, including BFF CaCee Cobb. ("Love my ladies!!!" she posted on Twitter. "Wish I could be with them every day of my life. Laughter is wonderful.") Says the Simpson family friend: "Even though she knows this is the right thing, breakups are hard."
Chris Brown Apologizes
'What I Did Was Unacceptable'
Five months after assaulting RIHANNA, CHRIS BROWN issued a two-minute apology on his Web site July 20: "I have told Rihanna countless times, and I am telling you today, that I am truly sorry that I wasn't able to handle the situation both differently and better." Until his Aug. 5 sentencing, the R&B singer, 20, is not allowed to contact or come within 50 yards of Rihanna, 21. On June 22 he accepted a plea bargain that spared him jail time; instead he will be sentenced to five years' probation, six months' community labor, fines and domestic abuse classes. "What I did was unacceptable 100 percent," he went on to say. "I can only ask and pray that you forgive me—please."
IS ASHLEY OLSEN ENGAGED?
A new report claims that The Hangover's Justin Bartha, 31, proposed to Ashley Olsen, 23, in Paris in June, and "she said yes immediately." While the couple, who've been dating for more than a year, are certainly smitten with each other, a rep for both says the story is "not true."

EMMA WATSON & JAY BARRYMORE
When recently asked if she had a beau, Watson, 19, finally ended months of speculation: "I do actually, yes," she said, referring to Barrymore, 27, a London banker who visited her on the Scottish set of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. And it's a good thing he enjoys traveling: She heads to the U.S. to attend Brown this fall.
DANIEL RADCLIFFE & LAURA O'TOOLE
Not every Harry Potter star is under a love spell. Despite reports that Radcliffe, 20, is dating O'Toole, 24 (they met working on Equus in 2007), the actor says he's single. But he tells Scoop he does like older women: "It's the maturity thing more than anything else, but ... girls my age are now mature, so it's great—I've widened the field!"
DEMI LOVATO & TRACE CYRUS
The Disney darling, 16, and Metro Station's Trace Cyrus, 20 (Miley's bro!), seemed like a rockin' match until Lovato Tweeted July 18, "Can there be such [a] thing as a Mr. Not Right Now?" Setting the record straight, Cyrus tells Scoop exclusively, "I care about her a lot. But right now doesn't seem like the right time. Maybe when we've both matured and [are] looking for the same thing, it can work out. We gave it a shot, and I guess that's all you can do."
IVANKA TRUMP & JARED KUSHNER
"It is wonderful to see ... my beautiful daughter so very happy and in love," Ivana Trump says of Ivanka, 27, who's set to wed the New York Observer publisher, 28.
NELSON MANDELA'S ALL-STAR BIRTHDAY
Celebs took to the stage at New York City's Radio City Music Hall July 18 for a concert to celebrate the first international Mandela Day—and the former South African president's 91st birthday. Whoopi Goldberg, Forest Whitaker, Susan Sarandon and performers Cyndi Lauper, Aretha Franklin, Queen Latifah and Wyclef Jean (who ended his song with a back flip!) toasted Mandela. "Be careful with your life and the people around you," said Stevie Wonder, who closed the show. "This [is] his message."
TISHA'S BABY SHOWER
Tisha Campbell-Martin and hubby Duane Martin were joined by pals Cedric the Entertainer and Holly Robinson Peete at their July 18 baby shower in L.A. sponsored by the Peanut Shell. "It felt more like a family reunion than anything else," says Martin, who is expecting a boy early this fall.

5 Questions for ...
The sexy Scot and star of The Ugly Truth sets the record straight about his dating life (he protests!), worst habit and his athletic past
1 You're currently shooting The Bounty Hunter with Jennifer Aniston. What's up with these dating rumors?
That is just annoying. If it was truthful that would be fine. But the point is, it's not. People say I'm always dating so-and-so, and sometimes it's three people in one day!
2 What's on your nightstand?
It's probably really boring: my alarm clock, scented candles and some incense. And Ambien too!
3 What's your worst habit?
My late-night pigging-out binges. I went to my fridge the other day and was so angry there was no bread. I called my assistant and said, "What happened to my bread?" She said, "Your trainer told me to take it!"
4 Window seat or aisle on an airplane?
Always window because I like to sleep on the plane. But I usually leave a little bit of drool! And I just discovered those pillows for your neck—it changed my life.
5 What's something people wouldn't know about you?
In my day I was a heck of a badminton and volleyball player. Soccer too.
