Victim's Mom Has Mixed Emotions over Ryan Jenkins's Suicide

Sunday's discovery of the remains of murder suspect Ryan Jenkins – found in a backcountry British Columbia motel room after an apparent suicide – was met with "a mixed reaction" by his mother-in-law, Lisa Lapore.

"It brings some closure to what's going on," Lapore, appearing on Monday's Today show, said about her late daughter Jasmine Fiore, whose mutilated body was found Aug. 15 in a Buena Park, Calif., Dumpster. This led to a six-day, international , manhunt for Jenkins.

Lapore, sounding remarkably composed, said there's some comfort to knowing "that he's no longer a threat." But, she added, "We still have a long process of closure."

Sitting at Lapore's side during the interview was Robert Hasman, a former boyfriend of Fiore's. He said, "I'm happy Ryan killed himself."

Yet Jenkins's death, which ended the possibility of his facing trial, disappoints Lapore in a way. "I think no one will ever know that this man was a professional con man," she said. "He targeted women … He wanted to be something he wasn't."

While her daughter "was genuine," said Lapore, "this man was a fake."

The TV segment ended with photos of Fiore as a child, to counteract the images of her a Playboy model.
