A private memorial for Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein, who died last week in New York City at the age of 36, will be held Thursday evening in Los Angeles at the Hollywood Palladium, PEOPLE has learned.

The memorial will be "a gathering to celebrate the life of our friend Adam Goldstein," reads an invite for the memorial, which is slated to begin at 7 p.m.

In a nod to Goldstein's battle with addiction, "The format of the evening will be in the style of an open 12-step meeting," continues the invite. "Adam's friends both from his life in recovery, as well as those from other areas of his life are welcome. We ask only that everyone adhere to the tradition of anonymity and let what they hear there, and who they see there, stay there."

Last October, just weeks after a Lear jet he was traveling in crashed, Goldstein deejayed for Jay-Z at the Hollywood Palladium's reopening.
